Cartesian coordinates are coordinates that are used on the typical graph or map. They are displayed on two different axes, the Y axis, and the X axis. Although when working with only two dimensions there are only two axes, when working in 3 dimensions there is another axis, it is called the Z axis. This ties into 3D modeling, which is what I am currently learning about, because in 3D Studio Max, which is the program I am using for 3D modeling, it uses cartesian coordinates to show where different objects are located in the working space. Cartesian coordinates are very simple, to read them you have to know that the coordinates are ordered (X,Y,Z). This means that if something is located at the point (10,5,2), it is 10 units along the X axis, 5 units along the Y axis, and 2 units along the Z axis. This makes locating and moving objects very simple because you can just enter the desired coordinates and it moves there.
